Welcome to my Studio

People often say that being an artist or writer is lonely work. But none of us works alone - not really. In actuality or in memory, we are surrounded by those we love and who love us -- family, friends, and pets. Looking over our shoulders is everyone who encouraged us and taught us our craft. And the illustrator works with the sound of the manuscript in her head, the voice of the characters, the rhythm of the words.

Not the least presence, is the book itself that is being created. It begins in a heat of confusion and clarifies as it grows and matures. When, finally,  it is sent out into the world to be published, the studio is a scattered, empty nest.
